Today’s art activity, led by the Art Gallery of Sudbury, was inspired by a beautiful old German Christmas legend. The story tells of a humble family whose Christmas tree was covered in spiders and webs. On Christmas Eve, Santa transformed the webs into shimmering decorations, reminding us that even the smallest, most unexpected things can become something beautiful. Our students embraced the story by creating their own sparkling spider ornaments, blending creativity, culture, and imagination. A wonderful reminder that art is not just about what we make but the stories, meaning, and joy we weave into it. 💫🎄 Thank you to the Art Gallery of Sudbury for bringing this meaningful and magical experience to our students today!
For the third year in a row, our PEACE Pens & Beyond student-led business at St. Albert Learning Centre was trusted with the special task of designing and creating Christmas tree ornaments for the children of Società Caruso members. That level of trust means everything to our students and speaks to the quality of their work. A heartfelt thank you to Diana Colilli and the Caruso Club – Società Caruso for once again inviting our learners to be part of such a meaningful tradition. This is experiential learning at its best: creativity, responsibility, entrepreneurship, and giving back to the community. Yesterday, our school community gathered for a beautiful Christmas lunch celebration a day rooted in hope, generosity, and togetherness. We were honoured to welcome special guests including Superintendent Erica Raymond, Superintendent Paul Nalli, Deacon Roland, Angela Corsi, and past graduate and proud OSSD & PSW alum Faith, whose visit reminded our students what perseverance and hope can lead to. Students enjoyed a delicious pasta lunch as we celebrated many joyful moments: 🌟 Students of the Month 🚪 Door Decorating Contest class winners 🔢 Math Guessing Game winner, 🎁 Many grocery gift cards shared with students to support them and their families this Christmas 🎁Many family Christmas dinner bags We are incredibly grateful to our community supporters who helped make this season brighter. A heartfelt miigwetch to Anishinaabe Elders Vince Pawis and Donna Longlade for their generous donation of large Christmas food bags filled with turkey, sausages, moose meat, fish, vegetables, and so much more. Thank you as well to local business owner A3C & Associates for their generous donation of grocery gift cards, and to an anonymous donor who provided a variety of wonderful prizes. Because of your kindness, many students and families felt supported, cared for, and full of hope this Christmas season. This celebration truly reflected the spirit of the season hope shared, dignity honoured, and a community coming together. We are so proud of our students and deeply thankful to everyone who continues to walk alongside them.
We are so proud to celebrate Eros, one of our incredible students who took a bold step this year by enrolling in a Dual Credit course at Cambrian College. Starting back in September, Eros embraced hands-on learning, real-world expectations, and the confidence that comes from learning in a postsecondary environment and guess what? He’s on track to graduate this year! Pictured with Eros is Kevin Villeneuve, our Sudbury Catholic District School Board Dual Credit teacher, who plays a key role in supporting students as they bridge the gap between secondary school and college. Kevin works closely with both students and college partners to ensure learning is meaningful, supportive, and aligned with future pathways. Also pictured is Stephen Armstrong, professor of Eros’ electrical class at Cambrian College, whose hands-on instruction and industry expertise help students build practical skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for careers in the skilled trades. Eros is now hoping to continue his journey by entering Cambrian College’s Electrician (Construction & Maintenance) program, building on the solid foundation he has developed through this dual credit experience. This is the power of hands-on learning and strong community partnerships. Together, we are helping students grow, succeed, and become the best version of themselves.
Today, four of our St. Albert Learning Centre students were invited to support a meaningful community initiative alongside the John Howard Society of Sudbury & District, a respected community agency dedicated to rehabilitation, reintegration, and second chances. Our students helped assemble 200 Christmas care and comfort gift bags for individuals in our local correctional system; a powerful reminder that compassion, dignity, and hope matter at every stage of life’s journey. At St. Albert’s, we believe deeply in second chances and in meeting people where they are. This experience allowed our students to contribute in a way that was respectful, purposeful, and rooted in service. Each gift bag included thoughtful items such as: 🎄 Christmas card 🍫 Snacks (chocolate, hot rods, candy) 🧩 Crossword puzzles ✏️ Pencils & crayons 🍬 Candy canes 🥜 Peanut butter 💊 Cough drops These small items carry a big message: you are seen, you matter, and hope is still possible. We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school with empathy, maturity, and heart. This is what learning looks like when it extends beyond the classroom and into the community. What an incredible 10-week journey this has been for our students at St. Albert Learning Centre. On Monday, we wrapped up our final Alpha class; an experience that touched hearts, sparked deep thinking, and truly brought faith to life for our community. A very special thank you goes out to the organizers behind this beautiful initiative: Deacon Roland and Carmen. We are also deeply grateful for our Alpha facilitators—Sara, Chris, and Deacon Roland—who came to our school every single week for 10 weeks. They brought: 💛 Weekly treats 💛 Warm conversation 💛 A safe space for questions 💛 And the powerful message of Alpha: that faith is a journey, God walks with us, and every question is welcome. Our students were so engaged each week that they’re already asking… “What’s next?” That excitement speaks volumes about the impact Alpha has had on their lives. We closed our final session with a pizza lunch, celebrating the friendships, conversations, and personal growth that have blossomed throughout this experience. FIVE of our amazing students placed at the Branch 76 competition — that’s right… FIVE! ✨✨✨ Every year, the Royal Canadian Legion hosts a national Youth Education Contest that encourages students to honour our veterans through art, writing, and deep reflection. It’s a beautiful opportunity for youth to express gratitude, learn our shared history, and celebrate the values of courage, remembrance, and hope. One of the beautiful things about adult education at St. Albert is that students don’t just learn in the classroom they also get the chance to gain real hands-on experience through our student-led business, PEACE Pens & Beyond. Today, on his 18th birthday, Hunter chose to spend his day exactly where he shines: ➡️ at school ➡️ building skills ➡️ and helping grow our business ✨ This morning, one of our graduates stopped by needing custom “Believe” labels for his handmade pottery candles and he needed them by tomorrow! This morning, St. Albert Learning Centre was honoured to be represented at Christ the King Parish for the celebration of the Feast of Christ the King. It was a beautiful Mass that highlighted faith, gratitude, and the strength of our shared community. After Mass, parishioners enjoyed a wonderful breakfast spread and our students’ baking was quickly picked up and enjoyed. We were also thrilled to see the beautiful knitted pieces created by a parishioner, generously offered for fundraising in support of the Front Steps Project. A thank you goes out to the Front Steps Project Baking Committee for the thoughtful letter we received, recognizing three years of partnership, the dedication of our students, and the continued support that helps this initiative grow. Your kind words mean so much. We are truly grateful to Christ the King Parish for welcoming us so warmly and for the opportunity to continue working together in service. Today, St. Albert Learning Centre proudly celebrated the Feast Day of St. Albert the Great (traditionally November 15), honouring a remarkable scholar, teacher, and advocate for lifelong learning. Since the date fell on a weekend this year, our school community came together today to celebrate in the spirit of unity, hospitality, and gratitude. More than 80 students shared a warm lunch of homemade chicken soup and roasted red-pepper vegetable soup, enjoyed with fresh buns, reminding us that simple gatherings often create the strongest sense of belonging. We were blessed to welcome members of our community, including: ✨ Deacon Roland from Christ the King Parish ✨ Director of Education, Mr. Morris Hucal ✨ Superintendent Paul Nalli ✨ Superintendent Natasha Folino Their presence highlights the shared commitment to walking beside our learners and supporting their success. A few facts about St. Albert the Great: • He is the Patron Saint of students, teachers, and scientists. • He believed deeply that every person can learn, regardless of background or circumstance. • He taught that faith and knowledge work together, and encouraged curiosity, exploration, and compassion. • He was known for meeting learners “where they were” and guiding them forward with patience and respect.
