St. Albert Learning Centre

Ẹkáàrọ̀! It’s not too late to graduate: Start a new chapter at St. Albert Learning Centre!

This weekend, one of our youngest International & Heritage Language students lit up the room as she proudly wrote Ẹkáàrọ̀ (Good Morning) on the board during our Saturday Yoruba classes!

As we step into this new week, let her joyful spirit be our reminder: every day is a fresh start, a new opportunity, and a gift to be embraced. The countdown is on to the end of the school year — but there’s still *plenty of time* to make every day count!

Adult learners, believe it or not, you can still register! It’s not too late to upgrade or complete your secondary school credits.

To all our students: keep showing up, keep trying, and keep believing in yourself. Each day you commit to your journey brings you one step closer to your goals and dreams.

Let’s finish this year strong — with purpose, pride, and plenty of Ẹkáàrọ̀ energy!

Called to Care: Our Earth Day Mission!

Today on Earth Day, our secondary students at St. Albert Learning Centre took their faith into action—living out the Catholic Graduate Expectation of being Responsible Citizens and Stewards of the Earth.

As part of our award-winning Michael Monk Project, students rolled up their sleeves and gave back to our community by cleaning up our school neighbourhood. Over 12 full bags of garbage were collected!

We are so proud of our students for showing that caring for creation begins right here at home.

We love our school. We love our community. Let’s work together to keep it clean!

Celebrating Administrative Professionals: Robyn is the glue that holds the St. Albert team together!

Robyn is one of the most reliable, dedicated, and essential members of our St. Albert Learning Centre family. As our administrative assistant, she supports everyone—students, staff, and families—with patience, efficiency, and a steady hand.

From the front desk to behind the scenes, Robyn is a key part of what keeps our school running smoothly. She helps guide students every step of the way on their path to graduation, and we truly don’t know what we’d do without her.

Thank you, Robyn, for being the quiet force that keeps us all moving forward.

Teachers in the Making — Learning, Leading, and Living Our Faith

Although it was a short week, our students have been incredibly busy — and so very blessed by the support of our school board and wider faith community!

Yesterday, we were thrilled to welcome Joan Yawney, our Religious Education and Faith Development Consultant, who led our students through a meaningful, hands-on activity in preparation for Catholic Education Week.

Under Joan’s guidance, our students are preparing to become teachers themselves! During Catholic Education Week, they will lead several groups of elementary students through a special learning experience — teaching them about the Rosary and helping them make their very own rosaries.

But before they could teach, they had to try the activity themselves — and that’s exactly what they did.

Together with Joan, our students:

 • Practiced creating the rosary step-by-step

 • Shared feedback to help make the activity smoother for younger learners

 • Made smart adjustments, like:

 • Using bowls instead of plates to hold beads

 • Pre-threading the cross to save time

 • Taping the end of the rope to make beading easier

Through thoughtful planning, problem-solving, and practice, our students are preparing to lead with confidence and compassion — showing what it truly means to be leaders in faith.

Practice makes excellent lesson plans… and future teachers.

We can’t wait for Catholic Education Week to see our students shine!

Holy Thursday at St. Albert’s: Faith in Action

Today, our students at St. Albert Learning Centre spent a meaningful Holy Thursday at the Walford Sudbury—playing shuffleboard and balloon tennis, sharing snacks, and spending time with the seniors. It was a day full of laughter, connection, and love.

This experience beautifully reflected the spirit of Holy Thursday and our Catholic faith—serving others with humility and compassion, just as Jesus did at the Last Supper.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible education team for leading by example and being true role models for our students. And a special thank you to Trina for organizing and making this day of service possible.

Finding Jesus at St. Albert – Honouring Easter Through Faith and Fun

To celebrate the Easter season, St. Albert Learning Centre hosted a three-day “Finding Jesus” event that blended fun, faith, and friendly competition. Each day, a golden Jesus was hidden somewhere in the school—students raced to solve clues, find Him first, and win an instant prize!

Beyond the excitement of daily searches, students also had the chance to collect mini Jesus figurines throughout the week. At the end of the three days, the top three students who found the most were crowned our Finding Jesus Champions!

This special event reminded us that Easter is not only a time of reflection and renewal, but also a celebration of joy and community. And sometimes, finding Jesus starts with opening your heart… and keeping your eyes open too!

🙏 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” – Matthew 18:20

Celebrating the Full Joy of Easter — With Deacon Rolly and the Easter Octave

In Catholic tradition, Easter is not just a day — it’s a season that unfolds over 50 days, from Easter Sunday all the way to Pentecost. And at the heart of that season is the Easter Octave — the first eight days after Easter Sunday, where each day is celebrated as a continuation of the joy of Easter morning.

This week, Deacon Rolly visited our secondary students and brought that message of joy, hope, and deep understanding to life.

With wisdom and energy, he broke down the significance of this sacred season — highlighting how the Easter Octave invites us to pause and celebrate the Resurrection with renewed faith each day, not just once. It’s a time when the Church rejoices as if every day were Easter Sunday — because the news that Jesus is risen is that powerful!

Deacon Rolly used the classroom whiteboard to guide students through:

 • The timeline of Easter Sunday → Easter Octave → 50 Days to Pentecost

 • The meaning of sin as selfishness, and how the Resurrection restores broken relationships

 • A reminder of the journey from Ash Wednesday and Lent, leading us to the light and promise of Easter

He ended with a powerful moment of community and reflection by leading our students in prayer for Pope Francis — lifting up the Holy Father and our global Church in faith.

Thank you, Deacon Rolly, for helping our students experience Easter as more than a day — as a season of transformation and joy that lives in us all.
